The Rhythm of Life
(A reflection by Sal Godoij.)
Dear friend,
Have you noticed that all living creatures on Earth follow the same cycles?
Yes. We are all the same, from microscopic life to whales and elephants, and humans, of course, including plants, trees, everything.
Every living creature on Earth has a beginning and an end.
Yeah, I know we all take this for granted, but think of it for a moment.
Isn't it an extraordinary quality of our planet?
And we all go through the same stages: An egg or a seed, and then we are born, grow, develop, reproduce, and die.
I found this a remarkable quality, and I wonder if another planet that supports life would have the same life cycles, in the same order.
Now, if we all go through the same life cycles, shouldn't we, the ones allegedly set in the higher level in this scale of life, be more respectful to all other creatures, including plants on Earth? Furthermore, shouldn't we be even more respectful of humans, for we are all the same, even though we have fractures that separate us, fractures created by us, not by nature?
Not a silly thing to think over.
However, even though we consider ourselves to be at a higher level of development, we are at the highest level of destruction. Very human scenario, indeed.
And despite everything we do as a species, life on Earth continues.
It's true. Everything on Earth moves at the same rhythm.
All life.
Only we, humans, are sometimes out of tune.
But nature always manages, through what we call Acts of God, to fine-tune us.
Therefore, we must be aware of this and change our behaviour, the sooner the better.
Or else!
COMMENTS ON THE REFLECTION:
My reflection carries a message of unity and respect for all living creatures on Earth. Anybody may have noticed that all living beings, from the smallest microorganisms to the largest plants and animals, follow the same life cycles of birth, growth, reproduction, and death. I find this phenomenon a remarkable quality of the planet and I wonder if other life-supporting planets might have similar cycles.
So, I point at our responsibility as humans to respect every other living creatures. I argue that if all living beings are connected and follow the same cycles, then, we, humans, who consider ourselves to be at a higher level of development, should be more respectful and considerate of other creatures, including plants and other humans.
My reflection also touches on the theme of human destruction of the environment and the idea that, despite our harmful actions, life on Earth continues to thrive. I suggests that nature has a way of "fine-tuning" human behaviour through events we might consider Acts of God, and that we, humans, should be more aware of and learn from this.
Overall, I vouch for harmony, respect, and balance between humans and the natural world. In this light, I encourage people to recognize the interconnections of all living beings and to adopt a more mindful, considerate approach to the natural world.
