My Wife

Hello, my friend, you who follow my writing know I have you in my heart. And so, I'm pleased to share with you this poem I dedicated to my wife, and through her, to all wives in the world, for it's in them that God finds His glory, for it's through them that life breathes.

Thank you for reading it.

 My Wife

(A poem by Sal Godoij.)

If marriage were a tree, I say

Wives would be the roots, and husbands the leaves

That's so. Roots are always firmly fixed in the earth

While the leaves are at the whim of the winds

Winds and dreams

As such, my wife is a daughter of nature, the roots of this tree

She has her roots firmly in the ground

Conversely, I have my mind on the stars, in other worlds

And while I dreamed

She raised a family, built our house on the rock.

Yes, she lives in this world, in this dimension, while I worry about other dimensions.

And about wars in distant places

But instead, she, in silence and smiling, takes care of our home

Of the education, food, and clothes of our children

I'm concerned about what plagues our government

She worries about what plagues our garden

And while I complain about the economy

My wife dusts her piggy bank and smiles proudly at how healthy it looks

I fear infectious diseases that ravage the world

She takes my temperature and blood pressure and calms me down.

I dream of changing the world.

And she busies herself with the daily chores that keep our home clean and healthy.

I'm worried about the latest news, and she worries about putting food on the table

While I daydream and follow my dreams to ghostly landscapes

She goes to the market to chat, make friends, and bring home the essentials

And while I immerse myself in studying the human condition

She invests her time in the orchard, prepares the soil, and picks flowers

Fresh flowers as fresh as the daily bread she bakes

Arrange the flowers in a vase, and the bread on a basket

And set them on the table

So, when I return home, tired of a day fighting my ghosts

There is a beautiful scent all over the house

And the food is ready, warm and delicious on the table

So, I have learned from her that if I take care of myself

I will project myself into the universe, and, as a reward

I will help humanity

And this is why I know that God lives in my wife's heart and through her

In every wife's heart in the world.
