A Psalm For Humanity
(An Existential Meditation On Life, by Sal Godoij.)
Does birth ensure a long, internal or external, or both, successful life?
No.
Nobody has ever been asked to be brought into this life.
Yes, but life is a divine gift, someone may argue.
Should I be grateful then even if it has been imposed on me?
What is the morality on it?
Is life then a blessing or a curse?
For many, life is but a journey through the Valley of Tears.
Still, we all need help to go through it.
We all need someone to dry our tears, to make us smile, to nurse our wounds.
We all need someone to forgive us, for our errors are not final.
For we are not the only ones who suffer; we also make others suffer.
We are not the only ones burdened; we also burden others.
We are not all smiling as we come downhill to collect our rock and push it back uphill.
What do we know about our neighbour’s burden?
Some people may want to die sooner, even though they are at the pinnacle of their lives. Others, not so soon, even though they are dissatisfied with their lives.
This quality is another paradox in the human condition.
Therefore, if our lives have been imposed upon us, the best thing we can do is to hold hands, form a circle, and sing together in a chorus a psalm for humanity, peace and compassion.
And our eyes and ears will open, and we will understand the reason why we are here.
