Life As Is

Life As Is

(A poem by Sal Godoij.)

What life brings or leaves

The last breath takes it all

Years, and memories

Hopes and wishes

Still I expect, still I wait

Expect what, wait for what

Reward, punishment, or justice?

Reward or punishment, yes

But Justice?

No. Certainly not justice

Alas, what is due to me, I owe it to myself

What is the consequence?

I act

The whole, the purpose, the core

Life

Do I deserve it, as is?

I live when it is my turn to live

Not before, not later

The same as death

Always on time

But why then the struggle? What's the purpose?

Aye, I grab a lamp, I seek the truth

But my sorrows are here, my fears of youth

Sorrows and fears, squatters on my heart

Alas, pain too is always present, like a shadow

Like a shadow in a bright place

Aye, I welcome life, despite all I welcome life

Life is in my heart, truth is in my heart

In the meantime

I go collecting free samples of sorrow

Free samples of fears

In the meantime

The heart knows the whole, the purpose

Aye, I grab courage, I speak the truth

Although some may think me uncouth

But the heart knows

The heart knows that life is alive

Alive behind a mask

While the mind knows it's lost

Alas, the mind knows it's lost

In the labyrinth of vanities.
