On Emotional Pain

On Emotional Pain

(A reflection by Sal Godoij.)

Pain is a personal feeling. No one can feel your pain the way you feel it, whether physical or emotional, but this does not mean you are alone with your pain.

My reflection today focuses on emotional pain.

Sometimes emotional pain can open doors you didn’t even know existed. Indeed, it can become an unsolicited invitation for you to listen to yourself, to your soul. By listening to yourself, you may change your perspective on your emotions, which are the root of your suffering; love being the first emotion affected. Love, because it is so wide, reaches every corner of what makes us human. And because we are humans, we sometimes confuse love, and love confuses us; therefore, we suffer. Still, we are stubborn and invent a world around love with fear at its centre. This sequence makes us suffer: the constancy of a badly understood love.

Still, some of your own deep emotional pain may become a map drawn by your life, leading you to discover the riches hidden in your soul.

So, you must explore the territory the map is showing you, but if you are preparing for this adventure, don’t forget to carry two essential tools to help you find and extract the hidden treasure: a compass and a pickaxe, which I translate as Patience and Compassion.

Peace and love.

Sal.
