On Bears and Bombs

Dear friend,

Here is a long short story that accompanies us from Creation.

I know it might be controversial, but I am just the messenger.

On Bears and Bombs

(A short story by Sal Godoij.)

.- A grizzly bear attacked a group of children and teachers in British Columbia, Canada.

.- Teachers are held in high regard for their bravery in confronting the bear and saving the children. They are heroes.

.- More than 350 grizzly bears in average are destroyed every year.

.- Police and other forces are hunting the bear.

.- The Prime Minister and other authorities applaud the teachers' courage.

.- Criminal bear, criminal bear, criminal bear!

.- In the meantime, people who kill other people are hailed as heroes.

.- We invade the animal's space.

.- We transform the environment, leaving the animals with nowhere to go.

.-We fill the rivers, lakes, and oceans with garbage.

.-We create bombs to destroy our neighbours in seconds, and we are happy and smiling in the picture.

.- We celebrate atomic bombs and cut a cake in the shape of an atomic bomb.

.- (No one lives here on this floor because 13 brings bad luck.)

.- We drive the animals crazy, and then we hunt them for their misbehaviour.

.- We never leave them in peace; we disturb their lives with our machines and crowded safaris, and we feel happy because that's good business. Oh God, oh God, oh God. Where are you?

.- We must kill the bear, hunt the bear, destroy the bear, and give stuffed teddy bears with love to our loved ones.

.- That's what we do! That's what we are! We are humans! Oh God, where are you?

.- Is it not better to respect the animal's place? Is it not better to give them back their space?

.- Why do we have to go there?

.- Did the bear come downtown to attack innocent citizens? Did the grizzly bear do that?

.- Is it better to destroy that bear, but with what moral, with what truth, with what reason?

.- Think, oh humans, think for once, what are we doing? Think before it's too late.

.- Open your eyes, oh humans. Re-frame your vision of yourselves and your role on Earth.

.- You are not here to exterminate, to exterminate, to exterminate.

.- Because until now, there are more funds, more ingenuity and more agreement to build weapons than to cure wounds.

.- Hunt the bear, kill the bear, destroy that life.

.- Do it again, and again, and again

.- But tell the rest of us with what reason you do it? With what moral? With what truth?
