(A poem by Sal Godoij.)
So, we humans live short lives.
Still, is it a consequence of the reality we live in?
The stress, the anxiety, daily struggle, the air we breathe?
No. We humans, live short lives because we dream.
Because we dream, our bodies can’t support more.
Because our dreams not only affect the soul but the flesh as well.
Our dreams draw us back to sleep when we wake up.
Our dreams wake us up when we go back to sleep.
Night after night.
They stick to our skin.
Pain in our bones.
Confuse our brains.
Stir up our hearts.
If we dreamed less, perhaps our bodies would wear down less.
But that’s not possible.
It’s not possible to live dreaming less than we dream.
If we dream less, we wouldn’t be living.
And life would be but an arid field
Under an aloof, far-away sun, we won’t be humans
Under an aloof, far-away sun, we would vanish with no track left
The garden, peace, love, and what remains of beauty
Everything would vanish under an aloof, far-away sun,
That’s why not for nightmares, but for lucid, vivid dreams.
Our short lives we exchange.
